Washington Capitals goaltenders Braden Holtby and Philipp Grubauer announced their participation in the October Saves Goalie Challenge, an initiative to support breast cancer awareness.
Founded in 2014 by the Ashburn Xtreme Hockey Club, the challenge encourages goalies nationwide to pledge money for each save in October, benefiting cancer research and the October Saves Scholarship Fund. 2017 marks the program’s national launch.
Capitals fans can pledge for Holtby and Grubauer on the October Saves website. Donors will be entered into a drawing to win signed jerseys from the players.
The Capitals have supported October Saves since its inception. In 2015, participants were hosted at a game with prizes awarded to top fundraisers. In 2016, participants attended a practice with a Q&A featuring Holtby. This year, fundraisers exceeding $650 will be entered to win a scholarship to Mitch Korn’s goaltending camp.
Join the Capitals in the fight against cancer by pledging to October Saves today. Every save makes a difference.
