About

From the crease to the cure.

Every October the goalie nation gathers to make a difference in the fight to end cancer. Our all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization turns stopped pucks into powerful lifesaving weapons through fundraising efforts that directly support cancer research and patient care.

October Saves was founded in 2014 by Lara Hopewell, Travis Johnson and Kerry Smith. It is a story of personal triumph and community action. By connecting their passion for fundraising for cancer and their determination to make a difference, the founding members laid the groundwork for what would become a powerful movement across North America.

While October Saves started with a focus on breast cancer, we’ve expanded our mission to support cancer research as a whole, including both adult and pediatric cancers. This reflects our understanding that the fight against cancer requires a comprehensive approach.

Beyond fundraising, October Saves uniquely fosters a sense of community among goaltenders, connecting them directly to the impact of their efforts. Our participants tour cancer centers, meet with doctors and witness firsthand how their saves are making a difference.
