Travis Johnson, co-founder of the October Saves Goalie Challenge, is the director of finance and gift administration.

Travis’ commitment to cancer research fundraising was sparked when her longtime friend and neighbor, Lara Hopewell, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her passion deepened after losing her father to esophageal cancer in 2009 and watching her mother beat lung cancer in 2021 with the amazing care from Inova Schar Cancer. She also has other family members that have been diagnosed with Lynch Syndrome, a genetic condition that increases the risks of many types on cancer.

As a certified financial planner with over 30 years of experience as a wealth advisor, Travis applies her extensive financial expertise to her role. Her meticulous approach has helped October Saves achieve a platinum rating from GuideStar for financial transparency. Under her guidance, the organization ensures that the vast majority of funds raised directly support cancer research and patient assistance.

Travis works closely with donors to optimize their contributions through strategies like stock gifts and employer matching. She also collaborates with beneficiaries to align research project funding with the goalie community’s interests. Her dedication and financial acumen continue to be crucial in maximizing October Saves’ impact in the fight against cancer.
