About Us
October Saves Goalie Challenge began in 2014 with the Ashburn Xtreme Hockey Club in Ashburn, VA.
One of the key principals of The Xtreme, founded in 2002, was to create a sense of “community” within the club and help its participants become better hockey players and better people.
The Xtreme, aiming to instill philanthropy and leadership in The Xtreme goalies along with great net minding skills, approached Lara’s League, a local cancer charity run by a mom of two Xtreme goalies.
October Saves was born! The Xtreme was blown away by the fundraising success of the inaugural event so the following year the club invited the Howard Huskies to participate. Again, the event was a huge success!
In 2015, Mitch Korn, the goaltending coach for the Washington Capitals, joined our efforts by presenting the Pink Brick Wall trophy to our top fundraising goalie that year. Mitch continues to support October Saves by donating a week of Korn goalie camp in the summer for one lucky goalie who raises over $1000.
In 2018, we welcomed Canada into the program uniting as one North American goaltending community to fight cancer and teach goaltenders how to be leaders on the ice and in their communities! #makesavescount
